Bette Moffett and a group of like-minded women founded Nifty Thrifty in 1975 to fulfill the need for affordable clothing and housewares in the area. In the beginning Nifty Thrifty opened as a consignment shop and operated with a group of 95 volunteers. The shop has been in many locations around Brandon since 1975, but it has always boasted affordable prices. In 2011 Bette estimated the shop had given $250,000 back to the community. In 2024 we estimate Nifty Thrifty has given the community another $150,000, and we still have the lowest prices in the area, and we are still women-owned and volunteer-operated.
Our Mission
Our mission is to sell clothing and other reusable items at reasonable prices. Our task is to keep as much as possible out of landfills.
Our hope is to help our community in its quest to be welcoming and vibrant, compassionate and supportive, educational and entertaining to our citizens and visitors alike.
We do this by giving to local programs, projects, events, activities, organizations, groups and ideas.

About our Free Community Tech Help Program
Every week at the Library, someone comes in needing help with something digital: applying for a job, setting up telehealth, paying a bill online, or simply learning how to use a smartphone.
Our free one-on-one Tech Help makes those things possible.
It takes about $10,000 a year to keep the program running. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Library relies on community support to sustain services like this, and sponsorships are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Sponsorship opportunities include:
Community Sponsor – $500 Recognition on signage in the library and thanks on our social media.
Connection Sponsor – $1,000 Recognition on signage in the library, social media, and mention in our weekly Off the Shelf column in the Lakeside News, Front Porch Forum, and The Neshobe Current.
Digital Access Sponsor – $2,000+ All of the above, plus recognition on the Brandon Free Public Library homepage and our website sponsors page.
