The Great Renovation continues this week with new wall openings being cut in between the historic library and the 1967 addition on the second floor. This is a brick wall that has to be carefully opened up and reinforced. Wall insulation continues to be installed in the 1967 addition with wood strapping over the insulation to provide a fastening surface for drywall and a cavity for electrical wiring which will soon begin. The south wall basement level at the deteriorated stone foundation has a new concrete footing installed and structural supports will be installed early this next week. This will pave the way for the new addition concrete footings and foundation walls to be constructed. The second floor in the 1967 addition is being prepared for repair of divits in the existing wood floor necessary for the future carpeting to be installed flat. Structural steel in the attic is nearly complete and temporary shoring will be able to be removed in the coming weeks. Be on the lookout for the big excavator to show up again in the south side to continue the excavation for the new addition!
